Our satellites are already in orbit. The bigger question is who gets to decide what’s next

ASLI moderated a panel on Artificial Intelligence and Space Technologies at the International Future Conference 2026.

The conference organised by Organization of Islamic Cooperation- Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (OIC-COMSTECH) was officiated by YAB Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim and was held under the theme “Shaping the Future Through Knowledge, Innovation and Civilisational Leadership.”

The panel brought together Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohamad Huzaimy Bin Jusoh of UiTM, Prof. Dr. Amir Akramin Shafie of IIUM, Prof. Dr. Rogayah A. Razak of UCSI University, and Mr Zaim Rubaie of PRAC, moving from the infrastructure that gets a satellite into orbit, to the robotics that let it operate once it’s there, to how AI is already reshaping classrooms and industrial safety on the ground.

The conversation returned often to a point the Prime Minister raised in his opening address, that the gap between what is technologically feasible and what is socially desirable keeps widening, and closing it will take more than engineering alone.

We thank OIC-COMSTECH for the invitation to moderate this important conversation on the future of AI and space in the Muslim world and beyond.
