Navigating Global Shocks: Resilience and Strategy for ASEAN
At the Antalya Diplomacy Forum 2026, ASLI CEO Danial Rahman moderated a critical dialogue on the evolving challenges of ASEAN’s external partnerships. The session examined ASEAN’s growing role in middle-power diplomacy and its potential to act as a stabilising force in an increasingly fragmented global order.
The discussion underscored that ASEAN must sharpen its external partnerships by focusing on high-impact strategic sectors such as digital economy, green energy, resilient supply chains, and conflict prevention to remain relevant and effective amid shifting geopolitical dynamics.
In a world defined by uncertainty and intensifying great-power competition, ASEAN’s ability to translate partnerships into practical outcomes will determine whether it remains a convenor of dialogue or emerges as a decisive strategic actor.
Driving this discussion were our distinguished panelists: Ms Gan Siow Huang, Minister of State for Trade & Industry and Foreign Affairs (Singapore); Mr Meas Kim Heng, Secretary of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (Cambodia); and Dr. Hatice Çelik, Director, ASEAN Application and Research Centre, Ankara Social Sciences University (Türkiye).
