Beyond the Look East Policy: A Japan–Malaysia Partnership for the Future

They discussed Japan’s support for Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship, the evolving Look East policy into a “Look at Each Other” philosophy, and the potential of Japan–Malaysia models in green tech, TVET, halal exports, and smart mobility to inspire regional solutions. Ambassador Shikata also touched on Japan’s role in peacebuilding efforts, from Myanmar to Palestine, and extended a warm welcome to Malaysians to visit Expo 2025 in Osaka.
