ASLI, or Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute, is a leading Malaysian-based independent, non-partisan, and not-for-profit leadership development think tank. Founded in 1993, ASLI has been a definitive voice of strategy and leadership, having provided trusted insights to governments, businesses, and diplomatic communities throughout Asia.

Owned and governed by the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, a leading education and research-focused philanthropic organisation in Malaysia, ASLI’s mission is to empower leaders and advance societies throughout Asia and beyond. ASLI does this by promoting thought-provoking dialogues among government, businesses, and civil society; enhancing leadership development and capacity; conducting translational research and engagement; as well as providing strategic consultation to stakeholders.

ASLI leverages its influential network in the wider Asia Pacific region to connect strategic partners, exchange best practices, and facilitate business opportunities. ASLI’s efforts have garnered participation from Heads of States, Prime Ministers, Ministers, captains of industry, prominent strategic thinkers, corporate CEOs, ambassadors, academia, and emerging young leaders.

Moving ahead in this post-COVID-19 era and as part of its strategic priorities, ASLI aims to embrace new ideas and innovations, including promoting leadership and ESG principles, harnessing artificial intelligence and technology, embracing lifelong learning and skills education, as well as strengthening regional dialogue in order to build agility and resilience within the communities it serves.

As ASLI celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2023, our core purpose remains, namely empowering leaders and advancing societies.

Vision

Empowering Leaders, Advancing Societies

Mission

ASLI’s mission is to empower society for a better future by engaging and impacting various stakeholders including policy makers, industry players, youth and emerging leaders, NGOs, and more. We envision a future where nation building, regional empowerment, and societal advancement are at the forefront of our endeavours.

Through our four activity pillars - events and conferences, training and development, research engagement and impact, and consultation - we are dedicated to shaping policies and strategies that drive positive change in Asia and beyond. Our high-quality training and development programs are designed to enhance the skills and capabilities of individuals and organisations, from senior leadership to emerging talent, to be effective leaders and catalysts for change. Through translational research endeavours, we generate impactful insights and recommendations that inform evidence-based policies and practices for sustainable development.

We believe that ASLI will continue to make meaningful difference in Asia and beyond.

Dynamic Ecosystem

Owned and governed by the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, ASLI is part of a dynamic and successful ecosystem that encompasses the Sunway Group and its 13 industry verticals including the Sunway Education Group. Sunway Education is home to world class institutions including Sunway University, the Sunway Centre for Planetary Health, Jeffrey Sachs Center on Sustainable Development, Jeffrey Cheah Institute on Southeast Asia Studies, and the Institute for Global and Strategic Competitiveness, as well as host of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN).

Being part of this ecosystem enables ASLI to collaborate and leverage the various expertise and resources available, including world-renowned subject-matter experts, advisors to governments, top 2% global researchers, and proven industry as well as civil society figures. This synergy sets ASLI apart in hosting meaningful dialogues, conducting high-quality training and development programmes, translating research to societal impact, and more.

It is important to note that while we are part of this ecosystem, ASLI retains its independence as a non-partisan organisation. Our parent organization, the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, centres is efforts on educational and societal philanthropy, with ASLI focusing on leadership and strategy applications based on stakeholder needs.

We believe that this ecosystem approach benefits our stakeholders in Malaysia and the wider Asia Pacific region. By collaborating, we are able to focus on maximising the return on value (RoV) in all that we do.

ASLI welcomes collaborations. Please do drop us an email at info@asli.com.my to engage and explore.
