Logistics & Supply Chain Conference 2018

Promoting Sustainable Transport and Logistics Value Chains

Malaysia’s progress on logistics has failed to keep pace with its growth in trade. Developing countries in this region are now catching up, so faster progress on logistics development will be crucial to sustaining Malaysia’s competitive advantages. High logistics costs in Malaysia derive from poor transport infrastructure, under developed transport and logistics services and slow and costly bureaucratic procedures for dealing with both exported and imported goods. The balance among these three varies among countries in the region but in each country, a complementary approach to address all of them will be needed to produce a sustainable improvement in competitiveness. Hence, the government formulated the Logistics and Trade Facilitation Master Plan to address these challenges in 2015. Logistics, trade facilitation and competitiveness are at the forefront of policy discussions in Malaysia. With about 40% of jobs linked with export activities and a trade to GDP ratio of 148% (from 2010 to 2014), trade has been the engine of Malaysia’s growth in the last four decades.

Industry players increasingly focused on improving the supply chain and logistics infrastructures as they rightly aim for a logistics value chain that is seamless, truly integrated and makes the best use of their investments. The challenge is as big as the investment required and the plethora of business opportunities it could generate. Additionally, a better transports and logistics network will increasingly attract more investment.

This Logistics & Supply Chain Conference is a not-to-be-missed gathering that will provide you with invaluable insights into master plans for infrastructure development, investment and business opportunities. It will focus on industry trends, the Logistics and Trade Facilitation Master Plan, new issues such as sustainability, green compliance and right carbon footprint, key newcomers, major changes and revolutionary services in the transport & logistics market.
