GREATER KL & SMART CITY SUMMIT 2017
Malaysia’s ambition to become Smart City Hub for APAC has come a long way since the Greater Kuala Lumpur/Klang Valley (Greater KL) was designated as a National Key Economic Area (NKEA) under Malaysia’s Economic Transformation Programme (ETP). The current success of smart transformation especially in the IOT as well as integrated urban public transportation has created opportunities for smarter technology to take root, where cashless payment systems, security, alternative energy are becoming reality, no longer an idea. One of the advantages that Malaysia has is the ability to jump in at the right frame of time with the right tools and the exact motivation to make the market entry and sustain itself there. Smart city concept has been on the table past decade but Malaysia took cautionary steps before leaping into the game. The country immersed itself in connectivity, before moving to network creation. Once independent networks were able to sustain themselves, the society went knee deep with App, Big Data crunching, E-Wallet etc with IOT being the choice of word for where we are at.
Within the main six facets to earn the “Smart City “tag, Malaysia has worked hard on integrated transportation, IOT, holistic new cities of the future, such as Malaysia City, our current pride Iskandar Development, Cyberview and several newly announced projects. Our local entrepreneurs and E-commerce players have crossed the 1 billion landmark and we are also pushing strong for alternative utilities management which is currently the highest cost for businesses and households alike. With green as our largest agenda, everything is well aligned and is on the motion to create a better city which will progress towards the better country we all aim to be. However, the simplification of smart cities can create complicated technologies which can deter the very straight forward nature it was striving for.
ASLI has been a staunch supporter of the smart city development since year 2012 and this year, Greater KL & Smart City Summit 2017 is looking to dive further into the current and upcoming.
